Soil compaction verification on an industrial project
Background
A large project had a contractual requirement to compact the soil down to 6 m. The contractor’s own tests showed results within specification. Even so, there were technical signs that the work had not been carried out as specified.
What we did
We ran an integrated campaign with:
36SPT points
7DMT soundings
50MASW+ stations
Findings
~3 meffective compaction (contract: 6 m)
4–12 msoft natural soil, no effective compaction
20–25%of points failed below 4 m
The failures below 4 m were consistent with the contractor’s own tests.
Outcome
Work redone
The contractor acknowledged the issue and returned to site to compact the soil to the 6 m required by contract.
